Global Healthcare Systems and Practices
Course Overview: The first of three courses in the ongoing Heatlh Systems Sciences program. Students will cover overall health system performance from a global perspective, the role of culture, beliefs, and values in shaping healthcare systems, historical development of healthcare systems around the world, models of health system design, and key characteristics of top performing systems.
Course Modality: This course is offered online in an asynchronous format.
Course Instructor: Dr. Danielle Kempton
Dr. Kempton is the Director of the NAU DMSc program, and Associate Chair and Clinical Professor in the NAU Department of PA Studies. Dr. Kempton has held a number of academic and administrative leadership positions within entry-level PA programs, in addition to providing consultant services to developing programs. Dr. Kempton's doctoral-level teaching experience includes coursework in patient safety and quality improvement, learning theory and curriculum design, genetics, biochemistry, and immunology. Dr. Kempton resides in Reno, Nevada, and currently serves as community faculty for the University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine.
Dr. Kempton has been a licensed and certified PA since 2005, after graduating from the Midwestern University-Glendale PA Program's Master of Medical Science program; her clinical background is in emergency medicine and urgent care. She obtained her Doctor of Health Science degree with an emphasis in Global Health from A.T. Still University in 2013. She has held a number of volunteer leadership positions in national PA representative organizations, and currently serves as the chair of the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) Faculty Development Mission Advancement Commission.

Refunds
Students may withdraw from a course with a full refund up to one week prior to the course start date. There is a 50% administration fee for withdrawals from one week prior to the course start date until the day the course begins. After the course start date, refunds are no longer available.
