Social Media & Photography Overnight Camp (Ages 14-18)

June 14th-19th, 2026

Join NAU and the School of Communication for an exciting Social Media and Photography day camp designed for high school students interested in digital media and visual storytelling. Students will walk away with essential skills for creating captivating photos, understanding social media strategies, and building a strong digital presence. This camp is taught by School of Communication faculty experts Beth Staub and Janice Sweeter.

Throughout the week, students will explore a variety of photography styles, including portrait, adventure, macro, and urban photography. They will also learn how to curate content for different social media platforms, understand the importance of representation in imagery, and practice photo manipulation techniques. The camp will feature hands-on activities, including field trips to capture campus life, nature, downtown Flagstaff, and local art and culture. During this camp, students will learn about social media ethics, digital privacy, and how to protect their creative rights. Students will explore the role of influencers in society and discuss strategies for engaging and influencing audiences online. This camp provides the opportunity for students to learn how to use social media effectively, improve their photography, and create a personal brand that stands out online.

Animation Camp (Ages 14-18)

June 14th-19th, 2026

Dive into the captivating world of stop-frame animation during this hands-on, summer day camp for high school students. Throughout the week, participants will explore storytelling and stop-frame animation techniques to create their own 30-60-second short film.

The camp begins with an introduction to animation history, basic techniques, and flipbook exercises. Over the week students will learn the art of storytelling and animation using creative materials. Guided by NAU faculty and animator Austin Frick, students will master stop-frame techniques to bring their short stories to life. During this summer camp, students will animate short films and add music and sound effects to enhance their creations. This summer camp ends with an animation showcase where campers and parents can celebrate their creative achievements.
