Supervision Essentials in Construction Management

This six-week course offers a comprehensive overview of the essential supervisory skills required for success in today's dynamic construction management industry. Topics include leadership and teamwork, communication, active listening, managing multi-generational and diverse teams, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, time management, and more.

Whether you're new to the industry or a seasoned professional looking to refresh your skills, this course is designed to meet your needs. 

Course Instructors: Professor Jeff Theiss, Assistant Professor of Practice

 

Professor Jeff Theiss brings over 35 years of supervisory experience to the classroom. He holds a Master of Education in Human Relations from Northern Arizona University (NAU) and a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Restaurant Administration from Missouri State University.

His leadership background includes 27 years as a hotel General Manager, notably serving as the opening GM of the Drury Inn & Suites on NAU’s Flagstaff campus from 2008 to 2016. In addition to his hospitality career, Professor Theiss taught part-time at NAU from 2016 to 2022 and joined the full-time faculty in January 2023. He has taught over 15 different courses, covering topics such as management, sales and marketing, finance, and customer service.

He is also a member of the NAU Mesa Workforce Development team, which is scheduled to launch in Fall 2025.

Dates and Times: 6 sessions // Tuesdays, beginning August 26th, 2025 (8/26, 9/2, 9/9, 9/16, 9/23, 9/30) // 3:00-4:30 PM

 

Course Location: In person, Phoenix North Valley Campus

 

Course Cost: $1,500.00

Refunds

Students may withdraw from a course with a full refund up to one week prior to the course start date. There is a 50% administration fee for withdrawals from one week prior to the course start date until the day the course begins. After the course start date, refunds are no longer available.
